Art comes from the body, and how better for us to create visual images than for us to use our body and performance? The medium of performance as a visual art practice shares a history with dance, theatre, film, and photography. In this brief workshops students will learn about performance art as a visual medium, and get to experiment with a variety of materials using their body. Students of all bodies and artistic backgrounds are invited to join this experimental workshop at the Firehouse for a new creative experience.
The workshop will be held Friday April 5, 6-9pm at the Firehouse Art Center. For details, call (405) 329-4523.

SPRING CLASSES AT THE FIREHOUSE

This spring I am teaching “Monotype Printmaking” and “Watercolor Techniques” at the Firehouse Art Center in Norman. Both classes will be held Saturdays for 4 weeks, starting March 30. Classes are open to beginners as well as professional artists. Registration opens February 15. Sign up early to avoid a $15 late fee. Learn more here, or call (405) 329-4523.

About the classes:
Monotype Printmaking: The monotype uses the printing press, a revolution in making multiples, to make only one unique image. Students will make monotypes using a variety of techniques, both traditional and non-traditional. This class will provide an introduction to printmaking for students, and will also introduce more skilled printmakers to portable techniques and diverse methods.

Watercolor Techniques: Explore the ability to be loose, free and create expressive works in water media while learning the basic principles of color and design theory. This course expands upon techniques learned in any previous watercolor classes, but is open to students at a variety of levels. Students will discover how to use watercolors traditionally and experimentally with different techniques and methods, and develop skills in color mixing, composition, and painting from life. Students will paint en plein air, from still life, photographs and create unique palettes suited to their personalities to create unique compositions and images based on their interests.
